A service includes, checking, cleaning & lubrication of motor & motion. Fine tuning of brushes & pick ups to provide maximum power.

Motor Armature Re-wind
SCALESPEED rewind motors in a unique way (LAP) to provide more power for your locomotive. This can lessen top speed slighlty but is negligible.
(we can supply armatures on an exchange basis, you must be-able to re-magnetise otherwise it wont run well, Prices start at £15)
Re-magnetise
This is absolutely essential after removing any magnet. Around 70% of magnetism is lost when a magnet is disturbed, removing a magnet even more!. Motors need magnetism to run.

Vertical Armature Motors (spinning top)
Integral motors as fitted in the 0-6-2T, 2-6-4T, A4, Duchess, City, Bullied Rebuilt pacific & Scot. These motors are of excellent basic design but oftern lack power. This is usually due to a poor magnetic field which results in lack of torque & overheat. Rewinding in lap mode & remagnetising in situ results in a dramatic improvement in performance.

1/2" Diameter open frame motors
As fitted to early Dublo Castles, 8F & later Wrenn & Dublo 0-6-0's & the integral motors fitted to the BO-BO Brighton Belle. These are not such a good design as the armature is small & the worm is large resulting in most of the output being used to overcome gear friction. However rewinding in lap & remagnetising results in a worthwhile improvement.

Ringfield Motors
These were Dublo's answer to the shorcomings of the 1/2" type Castle & 8F motors, also fitted to the CO-CO, CO-BO, Diesel Shunter & Southern Electric Motor Coach. Unfortunatly these vary in performance & often burn out whilst atempting normal duties. Rewinding in Lap & remagnetising, solves the problem & the improvment is well worthwhile.

Triang, Hornby X03, X04 Motors
Triang Hornby 3 pole ringfield motors
The X03 & X04 Motors fitted to many Triang loco's & some early Hornby Loco's perform well but often burn out due to carbon build up in the commutator slots. Rewinding & relacing the commutator & remagnetising remedies the problem. The power bogies suffer from the same problem & are similarly rectified.
